TGC-16 in 2018: record output, capacity expansion and revenue growth

The energy company summed up the results of last year’s work

In 2018, TGC-16 stations reached record figures: Kazan CHPP-3 for the first time in the history of the power plant produced 4,5 billion kWh of electricity, and Nizhnekamsk CHPP (PTK-1) — 18,2 million Gcal of heat. Such indicators of the power company were achieved due to the systematic work on updating the capacity and maximum concentration on reliable operation of power plant equipment. Read the detailed results of TGC-16 in the material of Realnoe Vremya.

Record output

In 2018, TGC-16 JSC showed high production and financial results, once again confirming the status of a reliable energy company.

“In less than 10 years, the result of our strategy and investment policy was that TGC-16 stations are considered to be one of the most effective facilities in the energy sector not only in Tatarstan, but throughout the Russian Federation,” says Eduard Galeev, the director general of TGC-16.

Electricity generation in all branches of the company last year amounted to almost 9,4 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) and increased by more than 18% compared to 2017. More than 8,4 billion kWh were supplied to the network, the company spent almost 0,9 billion kWh on its own needs.

To a large extent, the achievement of such indicators was made possible thanks to the commissioning of 9HA.01 gas turbine unit manufactured by General Electric, unique for Russia, at the Kazan CHPP-3 in 2017. Besides, the new power unit KCHPP-3 was implemented software solutions of Predix specialized platform for the collection of industrial data and analytics. Predix system monitors the technical parameters of the plant and continuously compares the mathematical model of the operating equipment with the mathematical model of the “ideal machine”. The programme centralizes large amounts of data and allows to predict situations that arise during operation. The parameters of work are continuously analyzed, a map of possible defects and recommendations is created. All this allows to avoid accidents and unscheduled stops, more accurately plan repairs and optimize service work, and most importantly, to ensure the reliability of the station and further increase power generation. In total, the Kazan branch produced more than 4,5 billion kWh, which is by 40% more than a year earlier (in 2017, the figure was 3,2 billion kWh). Thus, for the first time since commissioning, the power plant has set a record for electricity generation in the combined cycle.

Another branch of the company — Nizhnekamsk CHP (PTK-1) — in 2018 produced more than 4,8 billion kWh, increasing the figures by more than 3% compared to 2017.

Heat supply to the grid from Kazan CHPP-3 and Nizhnekamsk CHPP (PTK-1) in 2018 amounted to 21,3 million Gcal, which is by 2% more than in 2017

Heat supply to the grid from Kazan CHPP-3 and Nizhnekamsk CHPP (PTK-1) in 2018 amounted to 21,3 million Gcal, which is by 2% more than in 2017. The undoubted leader in this position was the Nizhnekamsk branch of TGC-16. The station produced 18,2 million Gcal of thermal energy, reaching the highest values in history. Thus, NCHPP (PTK-1) set a sort of a record.

Almost 3 billion rubles in the construction and renovation of the facilities

One of the main indicators of the success of the stations is the indicator of specific fuel consumption. It determines how much fuel the combined heat and power plant consumes for the supply of one kilowatt-hour of electricity, being an indicator of the competitiveness of the station in the wholesale electricity market and capacity (OREM). The specific consumption of conventional fuel for electricity supply by TGC-16 was 232,5 g/kWh, while many stations in the country seek to reach at least 300 g/kWh.

“For example, in 2016, the specific fuel consumption for the Kazan branch was 306,3 g/kWh, and in 2018 – 220,6 g/kWh. This decrease in the indicator for 2 years clearly indicates that the efficiency of the station has increased. The reduction of specific costs of conventional fuel was greatly influenced by the increase in the share of electricity generation from the GTU by more than 13%,” they explained Realnoe Vremya in the energy company.

Electric power and capacity in 2018 were sold to 328 contractors, among which the main share fell on large energy sales organizations (Tatenergosbyt JSC, Rusenergoresurs PLC and others), as well as generating companies with state participation in the share capital (RusHydro PJSC and Concern Rosenergoatom JSC). The geography of electricity sales remained the same and coincides with the geography of power supply — the first price zone of the wholesale market (combines power plants of the Central, Southern, North-Western, Ural, Volga, North Caucasus Federal Districts).

The company implemented the entire amount of thermal energy under the contracts of supply of thermal energy and the heat carrier. The realization was made both to industrial consumers and the heat supplying organizations (heat supply in hot water). Among the main customers of the company, there are Kazanorgsintez PJSC, Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC, TAIF-NK PSC, Tatenergo JSC and other large enterprises of Tatarstan.

The company focuses on reliability and maximum efficiency of power supply to consumers. Therefore, special attention is paid to the state of capacities and production infrastructure at the enterprise. Last year, TGC-16 allocated almost 3 billion rubles for technical re-equipment, reconstruction and modernization, as well as maintenance and repair of basic equipment, buildings and structures.

“A lot of work in the Kazan and Nizhnekamsk branches in 2018 was carried out to modernize the gas supply system of boiler units. At Nizhnekamsk CHPP (PTK-1), basing on the best available technologies, there were reconstructed the chemical shop No. 1, after which its performance was increased to 1,900 tonnes of demineralized water per hour. At the same time, for the first time in the energy sector of Tatarstan, compact high-speed clarifiers of its own design by NPK Mediana Filtr were used in the technological scheme,” explains Eduard Galeev.

At the same time, continuous work is being carried out with Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC — the main consumer of Nizhnekamsk CHP (PTK-1) steam — to increase the volume of condensate return after its use in the technological cycle. This saves costs for the preparation of clarified water and, accordingly, more rational use of water resources and chemicals.

Systematic social work

The company's production success would have been unthinkable without the targeted social support of its employees. Interaction with the staff is based on the principles of social partnership, which are enshrined in the collective agreements of the stations.

To improve the living conditions of employees, TGC-16 has participated in the social mortgage programme since its inception, and since 2014 — in the programmes “Development of the industrial complex in the Republic of Tatarstan” and “The sale of apartments under contracts for the purchase of residential premises”. In total, during the activity of TGC-16, 528 apartments were distributed among employees, 25 of them — in 2018.

The company pays great attention to the health of its employees. They are provided with voluntary medical insurance, and the stations are actively implementing a comprehensive programme to support physical culture and sports. Complex sports competitions in 19 sports are held annually. So, last year Energia IFC team, consisting of employees of TGC-16, joined the top league of the championship of Kazan on mini-football under the auspices of the Mini-football Federation of Kazan (FMFK). The competitions are one of the most prestigious in the city. The event was preceded by the won silver medals in the first league of the Kazan championship of the 2017/2018 season.

“Our team made its debut in the competition under the auspices of FMFK in 2015. Over this time, the team has climbed from the third league of the championship to the top league,” said captain of Energia IFC Kirill Kireev. “It is important for our successful sports ‘career’ that our team is more like a family. This helps us to be a very close-knit and friendly team and achieve success together.”

Revenue growth by 12 per cent

In general, the systematic work in the field of energy saving and improving the energy efficiency of TGC-16 had a positive impact on the financial performance of the company. Thus, in 2018, sales revenue amounted to 30,7 billion rubles, which is by 3,3 billion rubles or 12% more than in 2017. In the revenue structure, the largest share was taken by the sale of heat energy and heat carrier (the share was 56%), as well as the sale of electric energy and power (43% of total revenue).

The increase in revenues from the sale of heat energy and heat carrier is associated with an increase in the volume of heat energy supply and an increase in the rate of sale of heat and coolant. The increase in revenue for electricity and capacity was due to an increase in the volume of electricity sales by 18% and the volume of power sales by 15%. These figures for the electrics are due to the work of the gas turbine for Kazan CHPP-3.

Last year, all the necessary steps were taken to further increase production volumes and achieve new efficiency parameters

The net profit of TGC-16 in 2018 amounted to 1,9 billion rubles. From the earned funds, 2,3 billion rubles of tax payments and fees were paid to the budgets of all levels and extra-budgetary funds, including 1 billion rubles to the budget of Tatarstan, which is more than 44% of the total amount paid.

“Last year, all the necessary steps were taken to further increase production and achieve new efficiency parameters. The company is becoming increasingly competitive in the energy market. Now TGC-16 has everything necessary for the strategic development of success: a strong brand, powerful and modern production base, qualified and dedicated team and motivated management with extensive experience of successful activity,” Eduard Galeev concluded.

The company plans to continue to supply consumers with heat and electricity at competitive prices, using innovative technologies and minimizing the negative impact on the environment.
