The 7th Concordia International Festival of Contemporaneous Music named after Sofia Gubaidullina opened in the S. Saydashev State Big Concert Hall on 3 November. The first festival evening was marked with a premiere of Violin Concert Metamorphoses and Symphony No. 4 of one of the most frequently performed composers of modern time Krzysztof Penderecki in Kazan.

Worldwide famous Penderecki paid homage to the festival with his presence as conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan. Korean-born Ye-Eun Choi who is famous as the youngest participant of the very prestigious international P.I. Tchaikovsky competition was the soloist of the evening.
