Schneider Electric integrates into the digital world

Schneider Electric designs and develops data centres around the world. Among the latest projects — the reconstruction of the data centre for Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC. As a result, the petrochemical giant has received reliable engineering infrastructure and uninterrupted power supply for critical information systems. Read more in the material.

Three-level information processing

The data processing centre of Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC is a high-tech facility, a kind of technological shield of the company. It is where the issues related to reliability of data storage of one of the largest petrochemical enterprises in Europe are solved.

The decision to reconstruct the data centre was made about a year ago. The management of IT service at Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC faced the task to ensure reliable and stable sanitary and climatic conditions of work for hi-tech equipment of the systems of financial and production activity of the enterprise.

The engineering infrastructure of the data processing centre at Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC was created on the equipment of Schneider Electric, a world expert in design and construction of data centres. The French corporation offered the petrochemical giant an energy-efficient integrated solution that is easy to scale and, at the same time, easy to operate. The choice was determined by ironclad guarantee of compatibility of all components of the infrastructure and ease of use.

The uninterruptible power system with 2N redundancy system based on UPS Schneider Electric Galaxy 5500 was installed in the data centre to ensure continuity of operation. The solution is designed for a total load capacity of 120 kVA and provides the run time of the entire data center for 15 minutes on each UPS. It is uninterruptible power systems that help to ensure non-stop operation of critical data centre equipment in the event of power disturbances, low voltage or blackout.

Regular self-diagnosis

The data centre uses the modular architecture of the server room cooling system. It is based on the in-row air conditioners APC InRow RD. This choice was efficient and cost-effective because it allowed to locate high-density equipment in server cabinets without the risk of overheating. Each of the air conditioners includes two blowers and a variable speed compressor, a steam humidifier and an electric heater. All this allows to maintain temperature and humidity parameters in the data centre room with high accuracy.

The systems of air conditioning, uninterruptible power supply, as well as power distribution system are made taking into account the need for continuous operation of the data centre. The backing up of all critical components allows to maintain the engineering systems without idling the main equipment of the data centre, which will ensure a high level of availability of IT services for a customer.

''The use of Schneider Electric equipment has allowed to equip the data centre of Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC with reliable and scalable engineering infrastructure,'' commented Natalia Tameyeva

As part of the project, it was implemented isolated cold aisle, which allows the entire server equipment to operate in optimal climatic conditions. This ensures the reliability of IT infrastructure elements critically important for the company. The server rack enclosure APC NetShelter SX, equipped with all necessary elements of power distribution and monitoring the parameters of functioning of the installed equipment, were chosen to place the equipment.

All components of the data centre are equipped with a self-diagnosis system, and data from the devices is displayed in a centralized monitoring system. Thus, specialists can immediately respond to any emergency situations.

Reliability at the helm

The DCIM solution StruxureWare by Schneider Electric applied in the data centre allows not only to receive complex monitoring of the equipment at the expense of consolidation of all engineering infrastructure of the data centre in the single network, but also to form the single platform for monitoring and analysis of the work of engineering equipment of all IT infrastructure of the enterprise in the future. The modular and scalable platform StruxureWare will enable the operations service to always monitor and proactively respond to changes in infrastructure.

''The use of Schneider Electric equipment has allowed to equip the data centre of Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC with reliable and scalable engineering infrastructure,'' commented Natalia Tameyeva, the head for work with corporate clients of Schneider Electric. ''At the same time, the customer did not have to make any significant changes to the layout of the building, where the data centre is located. When creating this system, the possibility of development was stipulated, and if the customer has such a need, then this task will be solved with insignificant labour costs for modernization of engineering infrastructure.''
