A new carbon black concentrate production unit has been launched in Kazanorgsintez's Low-Density Polyethylene Production and Refining Plant (LDPRP). Thanks to new equipment, Kazanorgsintez will not only completely cover its needs for natural dye for black polyethylene but also create room to increase its production volumes. And the ISO 9080 international standard certificate obtained by this type has already opened opportunities to increase its sales.

Solemnly but without fanfare

A new carbon black concentrate production unit has been launched in Kazanorgsintez's Low-Density Polyethylene Production and Refining Plant (LDPPRP). The unit was put into operation solemnly but without much fanfare and high-ranking guests. In comparison with four pyrolysis furnaces demonstrated less than a month ago, the project isn't big, though important.

The enterprise's Board Chairman Ruslan Shigabutdinov opened the new facility.

''The new unit with the latest equipment will allow to improve the quality of the product and create comfortable working conditions. The launch of such a serious facility is a decent example of well coordinated work of the enterprise's staff. It's always pleasant to see a result of a joint job. It inspires hope and confidence, as despite the current serious situation Kazanorgsintez remains a reliable stronghold of the city, the republic and whole country,'' Ruslan Shigabutdinov stressed.

By tradition in the enterprise, great attention at the ceremony was paid to workers. Taking advantage of the solemn situation, chief master of instrumentation and control equipment repair and maintenance in the shops No. 152, 157, compounding and production of soot and coloured concentrates in the LDPPRP I. Zalyaleyev was congratulated on his fortieth anniversary and chief technologist of the factory Abuzar Rakhimov on retirement. After that, officials of the enterprise looked the new unit over.

Natural dye

Masterbatch is used in light stabilisation of polyethylene and is, in fact, natural dye. It's used in low-density black polyethylene production, PE2NT11-9. This high-density polyethylene is designed to make pipes and fittings in gas distribution networks, standpipes and fittings.

It should be reminded the PE2NT11-9 obtained the ISO 9080 international standard certificate. This allows Kazanorgsintez PJSC to equally compete with the biggest polyethylene producers in European markets. The enterprise won the Grand Prix in the competition of the Tatarstan Gas and Petrochemical Forum in New Promising Types of Petrochemical Products for the creation of the PE2NT11-9.

Nowadays the necessity of Kazanorgsintez in the masterbatch is 17,000 tonnes a year. Earlier, the LDPPR plant already had a masterbatch production line launched in 2001. Its capacity didn't exceed 10,000 tonnes. The enterprise compensated the deficit of its own masterbatch by purchasing from other producers. However, differences in the used equipment and feedstock lead to the situation when the quality of masterbatch of other producers was different from the quality of the product made at Kazanorgsintez. The new unit will allow the enterprise to provide the necessary characteristics to the whole volume of masterbatch.

To cover its needs and leave room

Profitability of the newly created unit will be 20,000 tonnes a year. The unit uses equipment made by Coperion and KraussMaffei Berstorff (Germany). The launch of the new unit not only allows to meet the enterprise's current needs but also augment the production of pipes or sell the masterbatch to external purchasers if needed.

''We open new big and small production units several times a year. So we confirm our status of the modern enterprise. Uninterrupted development is moving forward,'' chief engineer of Kazanorgsintez PJSC Rafael Safarov.

The enterprise also creates its own big venue for temporary storage of feedstock for masterbatch production – carbon black – with a total volume of up to 100 tonnes. The new infrastructure will be created here allowing to receive carbon black from the outside in usual hopper trains if needed. So the LDPPR plant will provide a flexible scheme to get the feedstock – carbon black – in different ways: by trailers, hopper trains and in big bags.
