WorldSkills in Kazan: 3.5bl for competence centres and nearly 60k for team training

How much it costs to prepare champions in working professions and where the winners work

There is a year left until WorldSkills championship, which will be held in Kazan. Kazan Expo exhibition centre, on the basis of which competitions will be held, is planned to be put into operation in the winter. Prior to the world championship, in May 2019, there will be the Russian stage, which will be a kind of rehearsal for the organizers, special services, volunteers. Participants are preparing for the national championship, which will determine the strongest. 180 people are applied from Tatarstan. Emil Gubaydullin, curator of the department for preparation for WorldSkills in Kazan, told the details at the online conference of Realnoe Vremya.

Teachers and robot technicians are leaders, chefs and carpenters are behind

The final of the national championship 2018 will be held in August in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. From Tatarstan, 180 people will take part, they will compete in 89 competencies. In the interview with Realnoe Vremya, Emil Gubaydullin, curator of the department for preparation for WorldSkills in Kazan, called the Tatarstan team leaders. According to him, one of the most developed fields in our region is mobile robotics and pedagogy. Florists, cooks, confectioners, carpenters, a number of competencies of industrial unit lag behind. 50% of the participants are students of secondary vocational institutions of Kazan, 15% — from other large cities of the region. Competence centres have been created to train professional skills, 24 of them are located in Tatarstan. Besides, training is conducted at universities and technical schools. According to Gubaydullin, 3,5 billion rubles were allocated from the regional budget for modernization of vocational education system — the purchase of equipment and repair.

''After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the system of vocational training was destroyed, our country has long been looking for mechanisms that could be used for the restoration, the movement WorldSkills has given them. We have passed a long way over five years, and we have set a goal to bring the standards of education to the world level by 2020. If in 2013, when Russia first participated in the world championship, our team was in the fourth ten, then the last championship showed that Russia is approaching the world leaders. In Abu Dhabi, we were the first by the number of points and the fifth by the number of medals,'' said Emil Gubaydullin, curator of the department for preparation for WorldSkills in Kazan.

Together with diplomas, graduates will receive a WorldSkills passport

The general training of one team costs from 10,000 to 60,000 rubles per course. The cost depends on consumable material and the possibility of their reuse. Florists assemble and disassemble the bouquets until the flowers wilt. Cooks were lucky the most: everything made in the process of training is eaten.

Tatarstan institutions train not in all specialties, for example, technical schools do not train florists, there is only a close to this specialty — landscape designer. At the same time, business is interested in professionals, and not only large ones — partners of the championship, which help to update the material and technical base and implement the standards of Wordskills, are not only enterprises such as KAMAZ, Nizhnekamskneftekhim, but also small and medium-sized businesses — construction companies, restaurants, floral salons.

''Today we are introducing WorldSkills standards in secondary vocational institutions. Upon completion of training, the students along with state examinations take the exam WorldSkills. In the future, along with diplomas they will be issued WorldSkills passports, which will be recognized by organizations when being hired throughout the country. This year more than 1,000 people will take this exam in Tatarstan. Enterprises are interested in a high level of knowledge of graduates of the institutions because it happens that they have to retrain young employees, spending money and time. For companies it is unprofitable, it is advantageous to get high-level professionals,'' said Emil Gubaydullin.

According to the guest of Realnoe Vremya, the winners of WorldSkills become ''stars'', but they do not go anywhere and continue working at the enterprises that supported them. Vadim Polyakov, who won gold in Abu Dhabi in the competence ''Refrigeration and air conditioning systems'', has become a coach of the new team.

''Today it is not low-performing students who go to vocational schools, as it used to be before, but A and B students''

According to the curator of the department for preparation for WorldSkills in Kazan, the enterprises offer competitive wages for workers.

''It is good salaries, but again, it all depends on qualification. There is a shortage of personnel — according to the official statistics, there are more than 39,000 vacancies in Tatarstan. Most of them are vacancies in the construction and industrial sectors,'' said Emil Gubaydullin.

The prestige of working professions is growing. Competition has appeared in institutions of secondary vocational education. ''Today it is not low-performing students who go to vocational schools, as it used to be before, but A and B students. This suggests that the prestige of working professions is growing, and the higher the class of specialists is, the higher the salary is.''

Students of younger age also show interest in working professions. They can become acquainted with their peculiarities in quantoniums and ''city of professions''. According to statistics, most of all children are interested in IT, laser technology, mobile robotics and the professions of cook and confectioner.
