Nizhnekamsk to celebrate regional Chemist’s Day

Workers of the chemical and petrochemical industry will celebrate their professional holiday on 27 May. This sector is a basic source of development of the Republic of Tatarstan's economy, while Nizhnekamsk is its immediate petrochemical centre. TAIF-NK PJSC is one of the biggest oil refineries in the countries that actively implements innovative projects, creates new and develops current high-tech factories. Today TAIF-NK occupied a decent place among big, stable and competitive enterprises in the republic and the country.

Chemist's Day is a professional holiday for workers of one of the most important sectors of heavy industry in our country. It unites not only specialists working in this industry but also scientists doing research in chemistry, students, graduates and the teaching staff of chemistry faculties. Chemistry is one of the biggest and most important spheres of natural history whose role in science development is difficult to be overestimated. The complex includes chemical and petrochemical industry, which, in turn, divide into many production spheres. Products of the chemical industry are also diverse: it's production of acids, alkalis, mineral fertilisers, polymers, dyes, household chemicals, varnishes and paints as well as rubber asbestos, photochemical and chemical pharmaceutical products.

The development history of chemistry as science began as early as the 17 th century. Then, thanks to scientist Robert Boyle, humankind heard of such a definition as a chemical element for the first time. Centuries later, in 1896, Mendeleyev's table appeared, due to which specialists still easily define the chemical composition of different substances. Nevertheless, Chemist's Day was first celebrated in our country in 1960. Before obtaining the official status, the holiday was celebrated without state support for 20 years and was introduced to the list of memorable dates only on 1 October 1980, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Soviet Union. During those years, the chemical sector developed rapidly and was a kind of locomotive for many industries, agriculture as well as the military and defence sphere. Chemists couldn't make their day boring and gloomy. This is why it's being celebrated under the symbol of a chemical element of Mendeleyev's periodic table on the initiative of MSU students since 1965.

The original tradition gradually spread to many chemistry faculties of the post-Soviet space. Every holiday is dedicated to one chemical element. Hydrogen was first. The jubilee 50 th holiday was dedicated to tin, while iodine is the symbol of the celebration in 2018.

Chemical Industry Worker's Day is a special holiday for Tatarstan. Our republic is one of the biggest centres in Russia where the chemical sector is fundamental and systemically important. Petrochemistry and oil refining lay in the foundation of the innovative and technological development of the regional economy and favour the solution of the all-national task – to build a new digital economy with a competitive industry. The sector's enterprises are a cluster whose components are in a single technological chain: from exploration and oil production to the end stage of raw hydrocarbon conversion that completes the production of commodities. Products of all enterprises of Tatarstan are very competitive and marketable.

The first sledge tractor train arrived in the production site one year later, the second one came with constructors from Leninogorsk on 2 January 1961. The industrial giant that expanded its possessions to several kilometres – Nizhnekamsk Chemical Factory, which produced its first product in 1967 already, – was the core economic pillar of the city. No smaller industrial enterprises were built after it. Nizhnekamsk's industry got a new twist of development in the late 90s when capacities on industrial sites started to be actively augmented.
