Evgeny Kaspersky: ‘In the middle of flat fields such thing as Innopolis appeared’

Tatarstan is in the top-5 by cyber attacks on enterprises in Russia

Cyber attacks aimed at technological processes of the enterprises occurs more frequently in Russia, as well as in the world. Tatarstan is one of the five regions with the highest number of cyber attacks. The experts of IT industry gathered to discuss what is being done to combat this phenomenon, which has appeared along with the technological revolution, in the framework of the fourth conference ICS TP Cybersecurity, which took place in Innopolis on 11 and 12 October.

'We live in a world that is dependent on 'digits'

The fourth conference of the ICS TP Cybersecurity from Kaspersky Lab was opened in Innopolis. The main purpose of the event was to discuss ways to secure industrial systems from hackers.

The 'father' of Kaspersky Lab came to Kazan specially for the conference — the company's CEO Evgeny Kaspersky. He opened the event by saying that the fourth conference was the most large-scale. Now it was held with participation of foreign guests and for the first time it has been held on the territory of Innopolis. Kaspersky called the science city a unique place where 'in the middle of flat fields such thing appeared'. The speaker summed up the results of the work in two words: it worked great.

Back on topic of the conference, Kaspersky told that the first news he read that morning concerned a cyber attack on an unnamed nuclear power plant that resulted in failure in its work. It happened a few years ago, but became known only now.

Evgeny Kaspersky: 'We live in a world that is dependent on digits, which live in digit and which is not protected from hostile penetration. So, welcome to the world of industrial security'

'In fact, we live in a world where such incidents will take place more and more. This year there have been at least two incidents that we know about – it is an attack on a small dam and water treatment plants; in the second case, it was not even an attack, they just tried to play with chemicals, mixed them a little differently. We live in a world that is dependent on digits, which live in digits and which is not protected from hostile penetration. So, welcome to the world of industrial security,' welcomed the participants the creator of Kaspersky Lab.

The honorary guest of the conference was the Prime Minister of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov, who first thanked for the presence of Evgeny Kaspersky, noting that the fact of his presence in Innopolis was already an event. According to him, the number of cyber attacks is growing rapidly, and the cyber threat is rapidly moving missile.

Khalikov concluded the speech with a story about his observations abroad.

'When I am abroad, I always try to analyze and find what Russian have left there? I can say that so far from what I have seen in every store — the word 'Kaspersky' on the colored boxes, Russian Standard of Rustam Tariko and Russian names on posters of theatres of Europe among the leaders of the largest music groups, opera singers and so on.'

According to him, another point is weapons, but 'it is less visible on the shelves and not in all countries.'

According to Khalikov, the number of cyber attacks is growing rapidly, and the cyber threat is rapidly moving missile

'So, my first assertion that a live Kaspersky is with us — it is not a joke, this is very important. We hope to continue cooperation,' concluded the Prime Minister.

Kaspersky responded by saying that Boeing is also of Russian production partly, software for which is made in such city as Kazan, and Russian developers, according to Condoleezza Rice, are the best in the world. Kaspersky is agree with the former U.S. Secretary of State and is sure that the Russian talents are the best in the world in software development.

After the official opening, the delegation had a tour of the stands, where there were illustrative examples what IT developments are used in industrial plants and how they interact with the Kaspersky Lab.

A helping hand in the fight against sabotage on technological processes

The announcement of the opening by Kaspersky Lab of the first Russia's industrial online center of computer incident response at industrial and critically important facilities KasperskyLablCS-CERT became news at the conference. A partner of the company is TANECO, a unit of Tatneft. More details about the new project was discussed at the press conference.

The head of advanced technologies department of Kaspersky Lab Andrey Dukhvalov said that the centre will be engaged in informing of the specialists, their training, assistance in integration and accumulation of information.

The next goal of the Kaspersky company is to create a competence center for oil and gas industry – primarily it concerns Tatarstan

They decided to announce about the creation of a new center in Innopolis. Earlier, Kaspersky Lab opened its centre of excellence here. 'We were talking about it everywhere, but Tatarstan was the first who said: we support,' explained the choice Kaspersky. The next objective of his company is to create a competence center for oil and gas industry – primarily it concerns Tatarstan. Further — more, to spread its effect to other industries on the basis of Innopolis.

At the press conference they also said that Kaspersky Lab together with Rostelecom have entered the national association of market participants of the industrial Internet.

According to the Vice-President of the Rostelecom PJSC Aleksander Maslov, they are also negotiating with a number of major Russian companies, which will lead to the expansion of the association. It is assumed that the network of industrial and transport enterprises will be integrated among each other and with centers of storage, with Big Data technology.

Tatarstan is in the top by cyber attacks

Cyber attacks can not only stop production or disrupt operations, but also to engage in theft — for example, instead of 100 tonnes of grain to export only 80 tonnes. All companies are in a risk zone — from transport companies to the oil refining industry. Answering the question Realnoe Vremya about the vulnerability of Russian enterprises to cyberattacks, Evgeny Kaspersky said that the level of insecurity is actually the same as everywhere in the world. 'I would not point out Russia separately, everywhere is bad, alas.'

Roman Shaikhutdinov explained the number of cyber attacks by the fact that the Republic is the concentration of the economic potential and the economy RT is the fifth by volume in Russia

It is interesting that Tatarstan is among the top five Russian regions with the greatest number of cyber attacks. The Minister of Informatization and Communications Roman Shaikhutdinov explained by the fact that the Republic is the concentration of the economic potential and the economy RT is the fifth by volume in Russia.

The Minister of Informatization of Tatarstan also told about the initiative of creation of the Republican club of IT-directors that on a continual basis will cooperate in the field of information security with Kaspersky Lab.
