Dmitry Ananyev, Promsvyazbank: ‘We are not at a decent level in Tatarstan’

What will Promsvyazbank (PSB) Management Company do in Cyprus? What are the strategic areas of the activity of PSB? How is the bank going to augment its presence in Tatarstan? The director of Promsvyazbank PJSC Dmitry Ananyev told journalists about it after a meeting in the Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan with the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.

Work more actively

The director of PSB told he arrived in Kazan in order to hold a traditional meeting of managers of the bank's branch network. As a result of the meeting with the President, there was signed a cooperation agreement. However, Dmitry Ananyev did not reveal the details. But he noted that this cooperation agreement will allow the bank to work in the regional more actively. In his opinion, this agreement is the next landmark in the work of the bank in the republic, an additional impetus to develop the support of export and import transactions of clients in Tatarstan.

The head of PSB told that at the moment the branch network in Tatarstan totals 5 points. Loan portfolio of the bank reaches 800bn rubles in the Russian Federation and 6,89bn rubles in Tatarstan. Dmitry Ananyev is convinced that not the size of loan portfolio but the reliability and efficiency of the bank is the key question: 'You won't surprise anybody by the size of your loan portfolio now. Bank is to be healthy, effective. It must skillfully and clearly control its risks. The regulator is strict about the banking sector, especially the private one. This is why we don't speak about tonnes and kilometres with our managers. Our task is to create a competitive service, find good clients and finance profitable sectors where money can reliably work and make a profit for both the client and the bank'.

According to the director of the bank, Promsvyazbank has shown a good dynamics and has actively developed its transactions in Tatarstan in recent years. A deal on the export of KAMAZ at €150m for delivery of vehicles to Cuba has been financed recently. The bank also has a plan for deals, which is interesting and prospective for industrial enterprises of the republic.

'Tatarstan is one of the leaders. In terms of the volume of the banking presence, we are not at a decent level here. We will put efforts to be in the top 5. Small- and medium-sized businesses, export and import transactions, retail sale are the key segments,' Dmitry Ananyev told.

The bank is also ready to loan the Tatarstan agriculture. The banker is sure this sphere has a big potential for development: 'Unlike Rosselkhozbank, we have another point of view on this sector. Risks of this segment don't terrify us. They don't cause a negative attitude. We are ready to consider and analyse these risks. If an enterprise is managed correctly and provides a good profitability technologically, Promsvyazbank is always ready to back'.

'We are not a sanction bank'

Dmitry Ananyev told that digital service is one of the strategic development areas of Promsvyazbank.

'Banking becomes digital. We are very competitive here. We even became a leader in the world ranking and outranked the Bank of Japan. We have much work to do to become competitive. We have all opportunities to provide our clients with a quality digital service.'

The head of PSB stressed that Promsvyazbank was not affected by world sanctions and it retained access to finances. It enables to develop transactions, financing and offers the clients the whole range of banking transactions.

He reminded that PSB has a branch in Cyprus that has been working for about 15 years. This month PSB AM (Cyprus) Ltd can be licensed by Bank of Russia and start working. Dmitry Ananyev told that that start-up was created together with Deutsche Bank employees in order to 'offer big clients difficult investment products'. As it was mentioned earlier, this company was granted a licence that confirms its right to work on Portfolio Management as well as the compliance of the qualification of the company's personnel with regulations imposed by the legislation of the EU and Cyprus.

Dmitry Ananyev also told that Promsvyazbank has almost created a debt reserve for Transaero. Earlier Central Bank permitted the banks that grant loans to create reserves on Transaero's loans by instalments until 1 October 2016.

'We are creating reserves being ahead of the schedule we have created with the regulator. I can't say clearly how much it is, it totals billions,' Ananyev told. 'It will be difficult to calculate the end loss until we sell pledges. I hope it won't be very big.'
