Kazanorgsintez upgrades its production facilities

The Tatar petrochemical enterprise has resumed work after a break for the scheduled maintenance and signed a contract for the modernisation of the production facilities. The new project includes the replacement of three glassroots furnaces by 2018.

Kazanorgsintez has contracted with Technip engineering company to continue the modernisation, reports Energy Voice. The French company will provide the engineering and procurement of three grassroots furnaces. This furnace type is particularly suitable for cracking high-capacity, low-cost ethane and propane gas feedstock. The project is another step in the plant's ongoing cracking furnaces replacement program.

Kazanorgsintez cooperated with Technip before — in 2007 and 2015, when they successfully replaced two furnaces. The current modernisation project will be executed by the Technip's operating centre in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands. The project is to be implemented in 2018.

Stan Knez, the president of Technip Stone & Webster Process Technology, commented: 'We value our long-standing relationship with Kazanorgsintez and their continued trust in Technip, the world's largest ethylene licensor and contractor. Our SMK™ coil technology has been applied in more than 100 installations around the world and is recognized for giving clients reliable, flexible and highly selective solutions to improve operational efficiency.'

Earlier this month, the industry source reported that the Kazan plant is resuming the production of high density polyethylene (HDPE) after a break. The three-week hiatus was caused by the scheduled maintenance work. The production is being resumed gradually, two of three reactors have been already restarted.

Kazanorgsintez is the largest Russian polyethylene exporter with the HDPE production capacity 540,000 tonnes a year. The plant produced about 371,900 tonnes of HDPE in January-September 2016, up 3% year on year.
