On 26 April, the 31st anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Kazan held a rally dedicated to heroism of the participants of the liquidation the technological disaster of the twentieth century.
On April 26 every year Russia holds commemorative events dedicated to the consequences liquidation participants of the Chernobyl accident. Since 2003, this day is International Day Commemorating Victims of Radiation Accidents and Catastrophes proclaimed by the United Nations.
